Environmental Impacts

Plastic pollution is having a negative impact on our oceans and wildlife. A lot of plastic goods and trash comes from land and then flows to the ocean. Rivers act like conveyor belts picking up trash and flowing to, bays and oceans. While in the ocean, the plastic stays in the same spot till an ocean current moves it around the globe.

Animals in the millions are killed because of plastic. Nearly 700 sea animals are heavily harmed because of plastic. Almost every type of seabird consumes plastic.

Seals, turtles, whales, and other marine animals are strangled by fishing tools, like abandoned fishing gear or discarded six-pack rings. Presence of Microplastics (plastic that is broken into smaller pieces of plastic) have been found in 100 marine species. Microplastic is being consumed by land and sea animals and ultimately by humans.
